A gun is made of plastic. It can not be safely sterilised as if it was it would simply melt or the components would break. Therefore it is only wiped down with an alcohol wipe or similar. This method does not safely kill off all of the pathogens that could potentially be harboured on the gun. Because of this you could be at risk of catching a blood borne pathogen from the people who were pierced before you with the same gun.
The ear studs unless you are willing to pay a hell of a lot more are usually made of 9k gold, gold plated or surgical steel. All of which by EU law a proper piercing studio is not allowed to use as they are classed as inferior metals loaded with things like nickel. Also, blunt force trauma!! Imagine piercing your ear with a blunt object.
That is what a gun does. An ear stud is blunt. It has to be to stay in your ear. It is forced through your ear and basically rips the layers on the way leaving a jagged shaped hole that is harder to heel. A needle is sharp, it cuts through properly leaving a neat circle ready for your implant grade jewellery to sit in.
We are educated on piercing, trained, experienced and it's what we live for. We do extra training, we throw away or sterilise what we use. We use high grade metals to keep you safe as standard. If you think your child needs a double gun piercing then your child may not be ready to get pierced at all. Pick safety over "it might hurt them less" it's your child's health and safety after all.

Information on Children's lobe piercings.
Children’s ear piercing at Labyrinth. We know this is a big decision for your child to be making, and will probably be the first big decision they make in regards to their own body!
That’s why at Labyrinth we want to make them fully aware of everything before we carry out the procedure. We offering ear piercing to children aged 5 years and over and that is only as long as they fully understand and consent for themselves to have the piercing/s performed.
Denise is a mother of two young children so is fully experienced in dealing with little people and their ways. Time will be taken to ensure the experience is fun and memorable instead of a bad one for them. We do not use an ear-piercing gun for ears (or anything for that matter) and we firmly believe this is something in modern day society that no longer has a place within the industry.
Ear piercing guns are not sanitary, reused, often break during the procedure plus a whole host of other issues from lack of training to bad jewellery. This is why we use a single use needle as well as high grade titanium as standard with the option to upgrade the jewellery to something a little fancier should it be required.
Young children are given a certificate, as well as stickers and sweets after the procedure as a well done! (Parents can have a sticker too!) Ear piercing starts from as little as £50 a pair which includes small titanium ear studs in a choice of colours. If we feel the child is not ready to be pierced (we are good at reading the signs!) we will advise against the procedure being done.
Please also be aware if a child decides against the second lobe being done, we will not be forcing them to have it. Their body, their choice. Also, we do not ‘double pierce’ as in, we will not pierce a child with another piercer at the same time. The reason for this mainly due to safety, but also if you think your child can not sit through two ears safely, then maybe they are just not quite ready.
Ear piercing is a big thing for a small person, you need to think of a few things on their behalf though. Things like school, P.E, dance lessons etc. Are they allowed ear piercings? Will they need to be removed? Ear lobes take a long time usually before they can be safely removed without healing up.
Feel free to book in for a consultation if you would like to talk to you and your child before carrying on any ear piercing. We are more than happy to answer any questions you both may have.
